Our road to the waterfall is lined with bananas, native Koa
trees, Kukui Nut trees, and other native Hawaiian plants. The
area can be accessed by wheelchair. There are 2 picnic areas
(upper and lower) near the waterfall overlook.
The falls demonstrate the geologic process by which high waterfalls
are created, in that it consists of 3 separate falls which are
slowly retreating up slope. As the lower 2 falls catch up with
the larger upper falls, it will become comparable in height to
the neighboring Akaka falls, some 200,000 years in the future. |
